Central at lunchtime is full of people pretending they're going back to the office, and a few of them aren't.

I like the theatre of that — the hotel nobody should be booking at that hour, the shower afterwards when you're supposedly returning to a meeting, an entire afternoon running on a technicality. That's half of what I sell, honestly. The other half is that I'm twenty-one and genuinely curious rather than pretending to be, which is rarer here than it ought to be.

Give me a scenario and I'll stay in it without breaking character, including the point where it stops being funny and turns into something else. Costumes if you want them, though I've found that the ordinary clothes of somebody you shouldn't be with work better than any costume ever has.

Central and Western, daytimes, and I'm expensive for a reason that becomes obvious fairly quickly. Write with something more interesting than hello — I answer those first, and I've never once regretted the policy.

And if the scenario falls apart halfway through because one of us laughed, that is not a failure. That is usually the point at which the afternoon becomes worth remembering.
